HCA, Medical City McKinney ED & Tower Expansion

New acute care bed tower and renovation to the existing ED, with significant site demolition. The 3-level patient bed tower includes space for future surgery expansion on Level 1, a 24-bed Med/Surg unit on Level 2. As one phase of a multi-phased building program on campus were underway, and underground utility upgrades were approved to support a new acute tower, the design team faced a challenge getting service from the central plant to the new addition. In an existing urban environment, utilities could not easily be located. This new tower was designed with infrastructure to support 2 additional floors for future expansion, and has direct connection to the main hospital, as well as behavioral/ rehabilitation facilities on campus. The ED expansion and renovation includes 11 new exam rooms, 4 new Trauma rooms, new X-Ray and CT and renovation to the existing triage area, which will improve registration and triage flow as patients check into the ED.
