Dignity Health, Mercy Hospital Southwest Tower Addition

The Mercy Hospital Southwest Tower Addition is a four-story patient tower that modernizes healthcare services for Bakersfield and the surrounding areas. It includes 64 new beds: 16 orthopedic, 24 ICU, and 18 NICU, the first in Kern County with 18 private family NICU suites. Surgical and diagnostic facilities were expanded to include 6 ORs, central sterile processing, 16 pre-op rooms, 17 PACU bays, and 25,000 square feet of renovated space for new surgery suites and imaging, supporting 16 modalities, including cardiac catheterization. A USP 797/800-compliant pharmacy was added, along with upgrades to the dietary/servery, main entrance, and lobby. Parking was increased, a helipad was installed, and a central utility plant with improved emergency power was built. Constructed on an active campus with phased work, the tower also features a healing garden for patient and family relaxation.
